Bitcoin (BTC) Donations during COVID-19

As the world strains to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic that has put the globe to a standstill, bitcoin and the crypto community have stepped forward and made stellar contributions to help provide relief and support the fight against COVID.

Binance:

On Jan 25, 2020, Changpeng Zhao, CEO of Binance, announced a sizeable donation of 10 million RMB via Twitter to help the victims of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China.

On March 25, 2020, Binance launched a global initiative called Crypto Against COVID which aimed to raise donations up to 5 million USD to help countries worst affected by the pandemic, such as, Italy, Germany, Spain, the Republic of Korea, Iran, Turkey, U.S., and the U.K.

The Giving Block:

On March 23, 2020, The Giving Block and Gitcoin joined hands to bring the crypto community together to help fight COVID-19 by starting the #cryptoCOVID19 alliance.

Gitcoin pledged to match the donation for 100,000 USD made in ETH and DAI on its platform.

Ripple:

On March 26, 2020, Ripple announced that they will be donating 100,000 USD to Tipping Point COVID emergency response fund and Silicon Valley’s COVID Regional Response Fund.

Tor Project and Stellar Foundation:

On April 3, 2020, Tor Project announced via Twitter that the Stellar Foundation will be matching XLM (Stellar) donations made to the Tor Project.

BitMEX:

On April 20, 2020, HDR Global Trading Limited, operator of cryptocurrency trading platform BitMEX, announced to grant 2.5 million USD to COVID-19 Response Fund.

Their COVID-19 Response Fund has confirmed grants of between $300,000 USD and $1 million USD to four organizations:

Italian Red Cross:

The Bitcoin community helped fund the establishment of second-level Advanced Medical Post (AMP) belonging to the Italian Red Cross in Castel Gandolfo, a town near Rome.

AMPs are mobile medical centers used in times of crisis to assess patients who may be in need of immediate medical assistance.

The campaign raised 29,350 EURO (around 31,828 USD) in bitcoin.

Binance Charity and Integro Foundation:

On May 1, 2020, Binance Charity and Integro Foundation announced to commit 1 million USD to support COVID-19 relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
